Ever seen anything like this? It is old, worn and moth eaten. But is it of wartime production?

final opinion for me, this is a 1950-60 fake cap

Very interesting. I wonder if the studio had the trap insignia printed as well. There was another thread that showed the same eagle. The trap sure looks convincing. If they did produce it, makes you wonder about some of the other printed insignia out there.

I have seen some of these old movie props that used original insignia but not this type.

I agree but thought movie props might make a nice discussion. The MGM tag is a property tag. Doesn't mean the studio produced it. They certainly could have. Right after the war studios had a ton of captured stocks they used. For pre war/wartime movies the uniforms and insignia had to be made. The insignia was usually crude looking, eagles as big as Turkeys etc. Maybe in the 50s/60s it appears that studios started having uniforms/insignia produced again. Seemed to be a large demand based on the number of WWII shows Hogans Heroes, Combat etc.
Which category does the hat and insignia fit into. What movie was it used in. If the studio produced it for a specific movie etc, I would assume it was used. Captured clothing didn't necessarily get used. I don't have the answers-a close examination of the hat might reveal more.
Might make a nice discussion topic. I've certainly seen stranger caps than the one posted, in wartime pics.

Hi Jim,
The movie studio tag is machine sewn to the caps interior with the same thread and style of stitching used to construct the hat so I assume that this film studio constructed it.
It only makes sense to me that if the Army constructed printed breast eagles then why not trapazoid insignia (late) To be honest I don't know if this printed trap (which is hand sewn to the hat and looks convincing considering some of the funky looking original insignia produced late war) is original or not but I would give it a chance of being real. (the insignia, not the hat)
