[QUOTE=BenVK]I think he meant that this type of stiffener i.e. horse hair wrapped in lining material, stitched up into a strap and then sewn into the lining is a feature he's only found on pre-war caps.

Are you referring to the stiffener that is exhibited in the hat you just picked up (originally posted on this thread)?

If so, I am almost certain that I have encountered this feature in 1940 dated BM's (which also had the gray on "light green" T insignia)

Err..yes, the same as on the one I posted. Separate strap sewn top and bottom and not strictly speaking part of the lining.

Hi, if it looks fine to Glenn that would be good enough for me. The cloth does appear to be later production and if I am correct about the T form it's really just a question of months. It just looks like a classic pre war cap.

        Nice cap, Mark

Very informative thread about the T eagles and stiffeners. Did we resolve the question, were these types of stiffeners only used on pre-war BM's? Here is my BM I picked up at the last SOS.

Great Bergmutze Harry, I missed your post until now. Maybe we could move this thread over to the cloth headgear forum now?

                Sounds like the right place.
