    The model of insigna on your cap (3rd type) was worn on Bergs as early as feb. 1939, and I see no problem at all with it here ; and IMO a second model (the one you showed in post #12) won't add much to the item, except maybe the sentiment you made a mistake in removing the original one. If it was a trapezoid insigna, you could have some undestandable reasons to do so Ben (even if...), but not in this case at all.

    My two cents.

    PS : no, it wasn't that auction, but you were right in saying it could have be.

      Edelweiss, the cap was stripped of insignia when I got it, like most of the headgear coming out of the woodwork in Germany.
      I already had this 3rd type badge laying around at home and I stitched it on myself.

        PPS : sorry Ben, I didn't read your 1st post here in the detail before answering...
        Point taken regarding your restoration and your tastes. But anyway, my feelings are still valid : you didn't make a mistake with this insigna, moreover given the quality of the cap's cloth here : both are nicely homogeneous. But well, nothing is really unfoundable, and one nice 2nd model T insigna will surely cross your path one of these days, if you absolutely want to see one of those up there.

                Well, I use to see the 1st pattern as the grey backed one, the second and third patterns are visible in this thread. But one can have a different view on things. Despite the fact that I don't see well what a 4th pattern T-shaped insigna could be ?

                      Hi, I consider there to be 4 seperate patterns of T form EM insignia as with breast eagles:

                      1935: White on Grey

                      1936: White on Dark Green

                      1938: Grey on Dark Green

                      1940: Grey on Fieldgrey around May - June of1940

                      I can post pics if needed, Mark

                            The timing is not really that important, is it ? Anyway, is it the "missing" link, an early grey T-eagle ?

                            One can also call it an "earl-grey T" maybe ?

                              Hi, I think it is important; the BM shown is more commonly encountered w/ one of the first 3 patterns but not the 4th which if my sources are correct was not issued until mid '40. but anyway here they are.
