These caps were not exclusively used by the Diplomatic corps. The same uniform was worn by members of the various Reich Ministries. The title in the cap would suggest that this cap was probably owned by a member of the Reichs Department for Land Survey which was one of the departments authorised to wear the uniform. To the best of my knowledge these hats were worn at state occasions and similar events where protocol required them. They weren't worn as service caps as such.
The caps for Eastern Officials were of a different style.
This is a rare hat as stated above and I believe a museum quality restoration of the sweatband to prevent further deterioration would be more than acceptable and should only have a minimal effect on price.

I do not have Angolia's books, but did anyone have time to check their references for this diplomat's name? Thanks again to all forum members for their help.

I'm trying to convince the owner to do a better job taking care of this item.

Thanks BENVK for your sage advice on preserving the item. Anyone should feel free to PM me if this item is of interest.
