Thanks for the help Don. I live in a heavily Polish neighborhood. Lot's of old timer's. The seller lives not far from me. He's not much into computers if you know what I mean. PM if you like.

Well, "it IS still out there" if that's the case. Good to see it's not with a dealer - yet.

It IS still out there. Surprised the heck out of me too. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to handle it for the photo shoot last night but as luck would have it, I did. Then back it went into a plastic grocery bag and into the night.

I have no problem with dealers but I suspect there is a collector out there who might find this a welcome addition to their collection. I saw one listed at warelics.com for $10,500.

As has been stated ad nauseum, these things don't fall off the turnip truck every day. I'm going home tonight to check out Angolia's book and see if I can dig this guy's name up, although he may be a mid level bureaucrat and untraceable.

Who is selling this, by the way?

          Don
Try selling said restored cap on the estand and see where it goes. I believe there was a restored Black SS EM there a while back...is it still there?

Hey Don, good to see you back and hope all is well (better?) w/your family.

I wonder the Vermessungsdirektor would be the head of a surveying departement and usually have rather engineering than diplomatic tasks?
Do I see something wrong here?

We are assuming that tag goes w/hat.

I am not sure if German of 1930's and 40's is the German of today. I looked up Vermessungsdirektor and it mentioned surveying and measurement. I am sure there were 10,000 different diplomatic jobs.

Too bad we did not have more than this hat to research the piece.

I wondered about this myself, but I attributed it to the fact that as Germany acquired territories it would dispatch diplomatic officials to coordinate land redistribution and or zoning etc. for industrial or public works projects. Just a theory. Would it be possible that these types of caps be provided to other high up officials? The color of the piping is different from the brown piping on the cap featured here. http://warelics.com/Visors.htm #370

Hey Fran - the Admin visor shipped out this morning. All is well with the fam, but we are dead tired!

I have nothing against dealers except that they have nice stuff that I don't and their prices are too high!

I think that it is possible that the cap is for an Eastern Official - I am not up enough on the piping or construction to make that determination, but if he was some sort of surveyor or tecnical official in the East, that would make more sense.

If I understand right then it has the right waffenfarbe for survey personell,so maybe the Eastern Territories idea idea is not bad.

Nope, gone to it's new home in Canada.

It did take a while to sell that one but I knew it wouldn't be easy because of the replaced top piping.

I don't see the same problem happening with the visor on this thread though and it badly needs to be reshaped at the very least otherwise it will pop even more of its stitching if left alone.

Within the eastern occuppied territories such a role of city surveyor or county surveyor would have been among the civil service ranks. Generalplan Ost envisioned not only genocide, but radical redevelopment, urban reform, and land reform across huge swaths of present day eastern Europe. If this cap came from a Polish family, surely in those areas annexed directly to the Reich, (Warthegau &c.) such regalia might have been found or in the Generalgouvernement, or even in Silesia, for that matter. I am unsure of how such a mission and function of senior surveyor would have operated with the foreign office, but I am unfamiliar with these uniforms. The cap is without doubt authentic. Maybe the fellow had a civil service rank and was pressed into somekind of service outside of the Reich. It is not my cup of tea, but Vermessungsdirektor is a reasonably high civil service rank. Is there not an Angolia book with Bender on this kind of regalia?

Thanks everyone for all the additional information. Hopefully something will turn up in the reference books.
