Thanks for the help Don. I live in a heavily Polish neighborhood. Lot's of old timer's. The seller lives not far from me. He's not much into computers if you know what I mean. PM if you like.

I have no problem with dealers but I suspect there is a collector out there who might find this a welcome addition to their collection. I saw one listed at warelics.com for $10,500.

Originally posted by DonCBenVK does a great job of restoring caps, and I am sure that others can as well. I am sure if it popped up on a major dealer's site, the sweat band would have been fixed no problem - that would probably add at least $1000 to the value, even with a fairly voracious moth attack... As has been stated ad nauseum, these things don't fall off the turnip truck every day. I'm going home tonight to check out Angolia's book and see if I can dig this guy's name up, although he may be a mid level bureaucrat and untraceable.
Who is selling this, by the way?
Don
Hey Don, good to see you back and hope all is well (better?) w/your family.

Do I see something wrong here?
I am not sure if German of 1930's and 40's is the German of today. I looked up Vermessungsdirektor and it mentioned surveying and measurement. I am sure there were 10,000 different diplomatic jobs.
Too bad we did not have more than this hat to research the piece.

Hey Fran - the Admin visor shipped out this morning. All is well with the fam, but we are dead tired!
I have nothing against dealers except that they have nice stuff that I don't and their prices are too high!
I think that it is possible that the cap is for an Eastern Official - I am not up enough on the piping or construction to make that determination, but if he was some sort of surveyor or tecnical official in the East, that would make more sense.

It did take a while to sell that one but I knew it wouldn't be easy because of the replaced top piping.
I don't see the same problem happening with the visor on this thread though and it badly needs to be reshaped at the very least otherwise it will pop even more of its stitching if left alone.
