        One of you fotos show what i believe to be green thread remnants from either rifle mountain or pz gren soutache..pink soutache looks like a believable period conversion to panzer..JMHO..Billbert

          Good photos Mark and good spotting Billbert. The DAK did have to change soutaches although one dated 12 42 with a factory soutache would be a surprise. I would be interested in how brightly it glows under a black-light but I would be leaving it in place. It is one of those,"are we ever going to be really sure cases" but it has every chance of being right. The other side of the coin is, if you take it off what are you left with ? A DAK cap dated 12 42 which should not have had a soutache with clear signs of having had one ?
          Best to leave it there and let the debate ponder over the years. I think it is very interesting.

          Does it show any signs of real use or is it mint un-issued ?

          I would also be interested in what others think of that soutache material ?
