Another gebirgs General wearing a large cockade. Who is this man?

That is interesting as the tow I posted have the tranditional short visor and seem to have a high crown seen on Bergmütze.

The cap shown by Feldwebl appears to have a long visor like the M43. I am confused. This is one reason I have never purchased a Bergmütze. I have always worried that I would end up with an over priced M-43 cap

The officers cap has a short visor as well as the front stiffiner which is usually associated with Bergmutze's and gives it it's high peak. Here is a comparison shot with an enlisted Bergmutze.

Some Mountian troop officers wore standard officers M43's as well with the edelwiess attached.

The comparison helps. Both of those are nice caps. Do you have more to show?

The insignia is original to the cap.

Here's one I have. M43 or bergmutze? I'd have to go with bergmutze because of the stiffener and the full lengh sweatband even though the peak is a bit longer.

Do all/most Bergmutze have stiffeners in the crown?

                        Hi Ben,

This would be more of a Bergm******252;tze, because of the stiffner and the sweatband. I think it to be a J******228;ger cap. Until 1943 they did not have the J******228;ger leaves but were equipped with standard mountain uniforms.

                        Charles,
The stiffner is one of the characteristics of the early issue Bergm******252;tzen.

                        MfG,
                        Bart

Would most headgear collectors agree that once the model 43 cap became standard that the contracted manufacture of bergmutze for em and officer ranks for the army ceased..??At that point only custom made or tailored caps and field made ones would be made in the bergmutze style....??Billbert
