A manufacturer's stamp is very faded and worn but still visible. Photos were taken in daylight with a better camera.

I owned a real one I got from a vet. In my opinion, no way, not a chance. Looks like it was made yesterday and somebody rubbed a little dirt on it, just my opinion...

Here's a pic of another H M cap in my collection. Plesse note the material. It is ribbed like many other known examples. Whereas my cap at issue has much smoother material. And the is a little lighter in color, albeit faded, than the other.

Clestuff, I always valued your opinion. But please know that there is no issue of its ageing or soiling when viewed in hand. I just wish I could get better pics to show you guys.

Oh my! I thought this was lost forever. Its the original neck shield that came with the cap. 20200723_131735.jpg I thought was lost forever I believed it was accidentally discarded in the box it came in.

Same material as the cap. Please note the degree of fading between one side of the neck shield and the other.

This has proven to be a very good day!

Smooth fabric described as: 'very late example made of a thin tropical material". The cap depicted is 2nd model - viewing the grommets. My H M cap at issue is a 1st model (but with the smooth tropical material.)

Below, please find 2 additional HM cap made by the same manufacturer. Note the same material, the same oddball shape of the eagle patch, the same grey metal buttons to hold up the neck shield, and finally note that the neck shield is the same material as the hat itself.

The smaller air vents below indicate 2nd model. The larger screened vents in my hat indicate 1st model. My hat then is an earlier model of AN HM cap made by the same maker as the 2 hats below.

My cap also has an oval stamp in the inside. Would like to se the stamps in these two.... The maker can affirmatively be identified.

Have you ever tried to remove a machine stitched piece of insignia? Man, somebody did an amazing job without even cutting the stitches.....nuf said, the cap is fake, sorry to say.

Nope ... much more needs to be said about this cap. I'd like to read some more educated comments from collectors who have actually handled these caps and have seen this model before. And I have shown plenty of examples of the very same model/style cap found on this website.

What about the construction, materials, vents and other features? Who is the maker? A stamp is present and I will use a black-light tonight to hopefully answer hat question. Those are the questions....

Clestuff, I respect your observations and opinion. In fact, I look at wear and dirt and thread characteristics myself. However, that alone is not dispositive of this cap's story. Although my pics are good, they lack the ability to present it's actual "sun-baked" appearance when viewed in-hand. It would be unfair to the hat to ignore that factor.

And there are too many + positive characteristics affirming originality to be ignored. I'm not new at tropical collecting but am very much here to learn! There's a lot of very knowledgable folks out there who have a lot to offer.... and I am listening.

I purchased this HM cap from a very reputable dealer with whom I have had several pleasant transactions over time. Please note that I also have an absolute return privilege and I will NOT be exercising that option - absent real evidence - and not conjecture - as to the cap's authenticity. And I'm grateful to have this rarer model HM cap with its original neck shield in my collection. Yep, I am going to withdraw from sale!

It's not personal to me in any way. In fact, I only offered it for sale because I thought the neck flap was accidentally discarded by my housekeeper. It was left in the original box and out the door it went. The next day I looked in the boxes at the end of the driveway before removal and there it was. It was like Christmas Day but in July.
