I more like the cap than I do not....The stitching of insignia is typical for the late produced caps as is the thin fabric the cap and the neck protection is made of.The buttons look correct too....I would expect RBNr stamp with the size and year of production on such late cap while here I see the rest of an oval stamp ,if I see it well. The larger screened vents were used on both, early and later caps too.Just my opinion..

I'll say one more thing regarding this thread, I do see two hats I like, two I don't. I still don't think the one that started this thread is real but if the owner is happy, that's all that matters. It's just my opinion, I could be wrong. But, I must say, it reminds me exactly of the fake HMs that were floating around in the late 90s and early 2000s. They too were made with real vents, buttons ect. Same material, same dull red liner with very faint makers mark. The dead giveaway on those was the bad insignia. This hats insignia was clearly very carefully removed. Why and when? Who knows. Carefully? Something a vet would not have gave a s*** about. I even got stuck with one of those bad hats about 20 years ago. As I remember it even had a celluloid sweat-shield sewn under the dull red cloth. You could feel it. Something every real HM I've handled had. I heard a very clever faker in Europe was making them. It's just something I wouldnt want in my collection. That doesnt mean others wouldnt mind having it.

I agree with your observations Gustav. I also think it is relatively easy to remove such Bevo insignia without disturbing the stitches.

IMO, I would not dismiss this cap.

Would feel comfortable owning all the hats on this thread, especially Mr. Singers, except the example which the thread is about. Even if it is a genuine later war variant, it is just too odd for my tastes.

The cap that begins this thread garners far more positives than negs in my opinion. Meyers can be found in a variety of fabrications ranging from the high grade trikot twill, reg twill, thru various grades of poplin. Its overall construction, seams, visor attach with forehead shield all conform to the norm for these caps. Were it blocked up nicely with its original insignia I think it would be reviewed differently.... just my 2 cents. I can understand why its getting some bad comments though as it pushes a bit of a leap of faith envelope.
