    Tropical belt for opinions !

    Hi Guys !

Here is a tropical belt that a local collector is proposing me... As I am not confortable with this kind of Stuff, I would appreciate your opinions about it.

Is the price of 300 euros legit ?? Thank you.

        Buckle > 70 euros

        Belt > 100 euros

Do not think these belonged together wartime, hope this helps

For 300 Euros I would look for a matched set with a buckle with a web tab.

The tan tropical belt you show Lionel is very interesting,

I collect the different colours and styles of German WW2 tropical belts. The one you show I have not seen before with the leather sewn (to stop fraying) near the catch.

Given the type of web reinforcement on the round end and the leather at the catch end. There is every chance that belt was manufactured from mid to late 1941 or early 1942.

As far as buying a matching tropical belt with a web tab on the buckle for Euro 300. In my experience, it is getting harder to find the green examples for that price. Euro 300 is a fair upper price for the one you have shown here. Certain green or blue examples have been sold recently for a lot more than Euro 300.

The examples with the leather adjustment hole strap for the buckle are not as sought after as the all-web examples,

                Chris

                  Chris,

Was this light tan coloured belt used by tropical kriegsmarine ?

                  Regards Mac 66

It would be a guess that all the armed forces used the tan. Has anyone ever seen a tropical belt with eagle M or swastika M markings?

It is always hard to be certain because buckles can easily be changed over.

In my experience based on the tropical belts I have found or handled. The LW seem to have favored the olive-sand and light tan web. The KM often wore a darker shade of tan, almost brown and also olive-brown web.

                      However, it is dangerous to generalise on this one because;

The WH definitely wore green, olive/ brown/ tan/ sand and lighter tan.
The LW wore blue, green (rare), olive-sand/ tan and lighter tan

It probably came down to what each branch of service could get, depending on the year of demand/ issue, numbers needed and stock/ re-stock levels.

Keep in mind that the KM were the last to get a tan tropical uniform in 1942 ( SS ?),

                      Chris

I have never seen an eagle over M on a tropical web belt.

It will be interesting to see what others say. In my experience, it is a hard to find leather belts with this,

                            Thanks for the reply,

I will get my belts out to have another look at them. My post number 11 makes it sound like there is a wider range of "olive/ brown/ tan/ sand" web belts than is actually the case in reality.

As I line a few up for now, the hue of the olive/ brown/ tan/ sand example is quite consistent. Plus I have to allow for use, soiling and fading.

When I get time, I will dig the rest out, especially the lighter ones see exactly what they all look like side by side lined up.

You raise a good question, were certain colours intended for certain branches of service or is simply nothing more than manufacturers variations at the time of production ?

And what is the full range of colour hues seen on tropical web belts ?

                            Chris
