marked RZM UE 72...the only reason I know it says that is from one of Renfields buckles, I saw it on his buckle and was able to figure out what mine said...so David if you see this could you please post a pic of the maker mark on your UE72 ...I dont remember if your buckle was a conversion or not...thanksAttached Files

Attached are images of my DJ to HJ conversion.
It would however appear the same as one of yours, insofar as displaying the UE72 mark of Paul Cramer.
Interestingly, a well known German dealer currently has for sale, 2 DJ to HJ conversion buckles and each marked RZM 36 for Berge u. Nolte.
I do like your Assmann conversion buckle Chad.

There's a 2nd marking on the inside of the lower 'fold-over', KH 30. If our theory is correct and early RZM double-digit nos. became M1 nos. later, RZM 36 is for Berg & Nolte. The KH nos. should correspond to the M4 nos., and M4/30 is again, of course, Berg & Nolte. Interesting to see that the converting firm did not mark the buckle again.
Chad, is any of yours double-marked?

A quite unusual buckle and furthermore, most interesting.
Actually and in my distinctly plebian way, I was totally unaware that the "conversion" had a 1938 reference and also, I am somewhat surprised that such a late date was sanctioned.
Most interesting though that the conversion work was attributed to the big three of Assmann, Overhoff and Dicke.
I would however assume that your buckle is the fruits of a marriage between O & C and B u. N.

David

Fascinating pics guys, didn't know that these existed.
Speaking of conversions, I have a pic of a WWI army buckle that was converted to an SS, that I'll post in another thread.

Fred

Chad,
No I did not. Never thought of looking there until I got the 'Haus Dicke' buckle which has a KH 22 marking in the same spot. When I found that, I took all my HJ buckles in hand but this one was the only other positive I came up with. By the way, my 'converted' buckle came from the Jürgen Bandau collection and back then (1987) we both thought this was a very rare item despite the RJF order as pratically no-one had one .Those were the pre-internet days and it just goes to show what a great medium this - and especially the WAF is.

Karl
