    Heer belt with buckle advice

I am new to belts and buckles, so I appreciate some advice. I received this belt and buckle from a friend who dug it out of a coffee can in his garage. Can you help me with a few pieces of information and advice:
    1. I have seen that most members will not advise cleaning the belt or buckle. But I am concerned about stopping any further rust on the buckle, and insuring that the leather does not further dry out and crack. How should I handle this?
    2. I will attach photos of the maker's mark on the belt and on the buckle tab. Can someone help me identify them?
    3. Am I correct in assuming that the stamp "J.R. 126" on the belt refers to Jager Regiment 126?

    Thanks,

    Dave

A nice used set. It is better just to leave it as it is. The condition all matches.

Nice buckle and belt; can you take a shot also of the belt's hook?

My advice is to keep as it is now. never clean or polish buckles and belts.
to stop rust you might use only a little amount of gun oil, used with a soft cloth, without scratching it.

Joda, thanks for the advice. Here are pictures of the belt's hook. If I may ask, why is this of interest?

                  WHY??

It may be marked. Also is it steel or aluminium??

Dont go wacking oil on anything.
Keep it at 50% humidity and all will be fine.
No more rust and leather wont dry out.

                  regards KK

I'm not very skilled in belts, but If I am right this kind of hook should be found on Reichsheer belts. This matches eith the presence of unit marking on the belt.

If this turns to be a real set, this would mean that the soldier used the buckle with an earlier belt, why we never know.
