Unmarked WSS buckle found today in a local bric-brac store in Vielsam, Ardennes...
Came from a house cleaning in the area was the story and described as "WW2 German Buckle" with no reference to Waffen SS.

Does it stand a chance?

Compare roll over sections that overlap prong shroud. How warped they are.

Btw, counterfeiters modified it by adding what appears to be a real catch bridge. As a note this repro originated from Austria with a catch which is an obvious give away sign.

Thanks Rick and Cossack on your expertese comments.
I own the buckle you commented on.
I also own the known Austrian type RZM 36/42 fake and compared it with my Ardennes find. The fake I own is definitely different. (Less broad wings, different eagle shoulder loops, and smaller and flatter lettering roundel. Details not so sharp as my find....)
Thats why I dared to pick this one up in a junk shop. It also has correct attachment system details compared with those on the fakes...
So the Austrian fakers have 2 different dies and s.o. put original backing system on this buckle?
