This is perhaps the more suitable saying:

"He that makes himself a sheep, shall be eaten by the wolf!"

Collecting high priced buckles without expertise is another story.

But to compromise a friendly advisor is a nerve!

Gents, just been watching the thread with interest and IMO if you paid $400 for this buckle then I think you got a good deal, if I have seen these buckles for for sale and currently I have 65 dealers sites saved in my favorites not one has one for sale, the last few that I have seen have sold between $650-750. Just an observation

            Sniper,

I concur with my colleagues that the SA buckle is a bit underrated. My only concern was your using the NASH book as your barometer for value without the benefit of photos. I am glad you received favorable feedback and guidance from David as his expertise in this field is and always has been invaluable.

Good to hear from David, Bill, Guido and Ben and others all in the same thread.

I'm mainly a visor cap collector but have been actively collecting buckles for about 2 years now. The SA Wehrmannschaft buckle and the Studentenbund buckle seem to be the only ones I can't find. I'd gladly pay $450.00 for either of them. Hint, hint...

PS; SniperB4 feel free to send me the photos and I will post them for you. Shoot me a PM and I'll provide my email address.

Both David and Bill have touched on an important point and I'll elaborate somewhat from personal experience. What a dealer asks for a buckle is not always what he will sell it for. If you see something marked "sold" that doesn't mean it sold for the full asking price. Case in point is a near mint, tagged Wehrmannschaften buckle that was advertised at 650 USD and sold, all in, at 440 USD. That included rapid tracked shipping to Canada from the US as well as the Paypal fees. That sale took place within the last 6 months. In these tough financial times values are very fluid.

                  Regards,
                  Stu
