Hi - I picked up (at great cost) a moulded Aluminum SA Wehrmannschaften buckle in absolutely MINT condition today. It is on page 183 of Angolia's buckle book - first edition. Mine looks just as good as his, but no label. Same maker, too M 4/22. I was wondering what it is worth? Hopefully more than I paid for it... Thanks!

With all due respect - putting a price on something unseen is careless. Please post a photo of your buckle so that we can provide you the best input towards your question. These are highly faked buckles so photos are absolute.
As for using Nash's book for a comparable price... that would be absolutely wrong.

Have to agree with KC1. So if you'd like the help of the people here I'd post a picture, and if not, then don't :O
And I know that you can never estimate price directly from a book, but it gives a slight hint of what the price should be. The best way is to compare with resently sold ones and get an update on todays market value. You could therefore not draw a conclusion that the price must have gone up since -03.

Alex

If I COULD post a photo of the buckle, I would, but I can't. They won't let me because I am not a full member. I am not a full memeber because I don't have a credit card. Does anybody know if they accept Money Orders for membership fees? As to value, David North, who has seen an actual scan of my buckle states it is worth approx. $650.00. (I just heard that today) The reason they are worth so much is they only issued 30,000 of them, compared to 100,000's of SS buckles, which in the condition of MY buckle would be $1000.00.

Dear sniperb4
From the images that you sent to me on a private basis, I was asked for and gave my opinion, that the SA Wehrmannschaften buckle that you now hold was an original example. I have no issue with this, although I am at a loss as to why this should be declared on this forum.
I did not say that the buckle was worth USD 650. What I said instead was that the buckle may be offered on a US dealers site for this amount. There is and with all due respect a massive difference.
Regards,
David

David, No good deed goes unpunished.
Prices on many collectables have dropped appreciably from 5 years ago. The economy has hit hard and many fellows who used to have some spare cash for these things now hang onto it IF they have it.
As far as rarity..it has to compete with popularity. There are buckles out there that are quite rare but don't draw nearly the price of an SS buckle because the SS is popular. Go figure.

I have to strongly agree with Dan, David and Jerry on their comments. If David has seen the buckle and states that it is an original than that's enough for me. As to Nash's pricing in his book I have continued to be amazed at how so off base Nash was with his buckle prices. Rare buckles were consistantly low priced and common ones were consistantly overpriced. As far as the price on a Wehrmanshaften buckle is concerned I can offer the following: This buckle in my opinion has always been given a bum rap on it's collectability. It is a beautiful buckle, but for years these buckles never commanded more than $250.00 and that w/tag attached. These were all mint or NM buckles. It was the one buckle in my collection that went begging when I sold. This buckle on the current market I would value at no more than $450.00 mint w/tag and that is a conservative estimate. $650.00-$1000 is way to much $$ to pay for this buckle. Lastly, the fakes of these buckles which in some cases are quite good has also harmed the price to a large degree.

I would like to put the record straight and in order to dispel any suggestion that I may have mislead here. As most seasoned collectors are, I am more than happy to provide an opinion to a fellow collector. The buckle in question is in my opinion original, although that is not the issue here.
By email, sniperb4 had assumed a value of USD 200/USD 300 and which I suppose is a good starting point. My response was that I thought US retail would be double what was being suggested. I emphasise that US retail was used as a price barometer and there was never a declaration of "what it was worth".
All the time I was indicating a dealers potential price and I still think that a mint SA Wehrmannschaften buckle would appear on some sites for USD 650. Whether that is what the buckle is worth and whether the buckle would sell for this price is of course a different matter.
In my opinion, USD 400 for a mint SA Wehrmannschaften buckle is a great price. Heavens forbid though that the buckle was possibly bought with an eye to making a quick USD 250 profit, although I am sure that was not the case. Again and in my opinion, a great buckle at a super price.
Regards,
David
