      Hello David,

I have to agree with JP on this buckle, Aldo the pictures looks very convincing, I do not believe this buckle is real. I have never seen or heard about this code before (I am collecting buckles for more than 25 years) and now suddenly there are several of them on the market. Not only in steel but also in other metals.

Fakers are become experts in ageing nowadays and the so called dug finds from Russian, former East Germany or other country’s are a good excuse to bring new fakes on the marked.

I have myself spend numerous days walking in the woods of the Ardennes, Germany and the Baltic battlefields in the good days (70's early 80’s) when there was still something good do find to know how dug up items look like. And I can assure you that steel buckles even at that period (20 years ago) where completely rusted away and unusable.

Unfortunately I cannot send pictures to this forum otherwise I could show you how dug SS steel buckles looks like. The only usable "dug" buckles that where found are the ones who where recovered from inside buildings like farms, barns, buckers or ruins. And even than, they where very damage.

Last year I had some old friend digger show me a so-called “dug “ SS officer aluminium buckle that he dug up that weekend. I could immediately see that it was a fake. After insisting, he admitted to me that he had bought it from some guy he had met digging on the same spots as he was that day. The guy showed him what he “just” dug up a few minutes ago. My friend, more expert in bombs and grenades than in buckles bought it right away and will be stuck with it for the rest of his life. (One do not need to go to militaria shows to buy fakes, you can do it right on the battlefields!!!)
David, It looks like you are living in Belgium, Maybe I could see this buckle in question personally??? This would give a definitive answer??

        Fake buckle

        Hello Marc and Jean Pierre,

Sorry for the somehow late reply , i find it very interesting to hear what remains of a ground dug item after al tehse years => and it is a perfect explanation for fakers to say " Ground dug " to give the artificial aging a more believable background.

UNfortunatly the Buckle is not mine ( it was presented with a question +> Do you know this maker mark ) from a German friend in Hamburg .

Im no buckle collector and yes i live in Belgium ( Tielt ) , you may come by and look at my coll. but al you wil find are award related items ( awards, award docs., Picture , etc ... )

I wil try to find out from where or who exactly he received this buckle => the damn thing is he is probably upset by telling the truth and is not so keen to give me that info.

ps : Jean Pierre , i wil ask about the magnetism !!!

        FRiendly Greetings,

This is for Marc, JP and others,

I sent a reply to JP on this marking a while ago. I saw this exact marking, RZM M5/131 on a two-piece brass Postal EM buckle in Mxxxxx's about 12 months ago. It was listed under the re-pro section. There were a number of bids on it I believed it to be a fake then and still do. Marc's confirmation on the same marking on the SS buckle just re-enforces my original feelings. What is interesting is that there are other buckles out there w/this marking albeit not to many but even two is too many. Hope this helps a bit.

            NOT "RZM" but "GZM" ...

            Hello Bill,

Please note that it is NOT "RZM" but "GZM" and also it is NOT "M5" but "M1" marked on the SS Buckle. Anyway, similarities are weird.

I am waiting also confirmation of the marking on a 100% fake HJ buckle (fake confirmed). If marking is confirmed, it is ... GZM M1/131 !!

                sorry

                Hello,

Sorry , i have a dead link when questioning my friend on this type of buckle => so from my side there wil not be much news anymore i guess , i think the silence is speaking for itself regarding originality .

                Greetings,

Well, i guess you are right since I have the exact same problem. No added info or photo available like if the buckle never existed. So.... I guess the next Max will show some in North America...
