Yes, it is. I believe it is original but others will provide a more accurate call than me.
Note: Gold Police buckles were not reserved only to very high ranking Police officers (Generals) since all Wasserschutzpolizei (Water Protection Police) officers were requested to wear a Gold Police Officer buckle by 1939. If there is a difference in quality between the Gold Police buckles used for Generals and the Gold Police buckles used for common Wasserschutzpolizei officers, I personnaly don't know. Someone specialized in Police equipment and Police history like the very respected J.Wotka will certainly be able to tell.

There are 2 marks on the reverse at the top, would these be considered die flaws?

          Hello there,
Looks like a Feuerschutz (Fire protection police) buckle with dark finish made by Overhoff.
I don't know about the die flaws though.

Looks like the regular Police Officer buckle offered by Bill Shea http://www.therupturedduck.com/WebPa...ckles/b223.htm
which is also made by Overhoff has the exact same 2 marks.
So, if this is correct, you could safely consider those as die flaws.
Regarding the buckle been for Fire Protection Police, if the color is black / olive drab I do agree. But the color looks on my LCD monitor gold / golden. Harry, which color it is in reality?

Cannot comment on the actual color as I do not own this buckle. What would the approximate value be?

Once again, it will depend if it is Gold/Golden or Black/Burnished color. Once you have the answer, someone dealing with those buckles will tell you.

As a rule this is how these buckles are catagorized- Aluminum Matt gold finish, Water Police; Aluminum Matt gold with polished Swastika and lettering, water police or possibly Police General's buckle( personally I feel these are just high end Water Police buckles; Heavy metal matt gold w/polished swas. and lettering. Police General's buckle; Heavy metal bright gold , also General's but usually the polished model with the gilding worn off.

Hope this helps. I would like Joe W. to chime in on this as well.

What is the value of a gold? What is the value of a black?
