WH Steel Buckle with Aluminium prongs - Original ?

    Hello all,

I have recently added this WH buckle to my collection, but I have some doubts about it. Is it common for a steel buckle to have prongs made out of aluminium ?

The buckle itself has no maker mark that I can see, and the stamp on the leather tongue is very weak: only the location (Lüdenscheid) is visible.

There are some traces of wear and the leather is rather stiff, but I'm really not sure if the buckle is a good one.
What do you think about it ?

    Many thanks for your opinion,
    Jeff

                        hello

I think that all the buckle is good:

The date on the tab, outisde and under the oval stamp maker, is typical from the Assmann factory .We can only see the up of the marking date: 1940.

The eagle and the catch are from the Assmann factory, so the tab belongs to this buckle.

In 1940, the buckles started to be made from steel and no more in aluminium, so they used the last stock of aluminium prongs to built the new steel buckles product..

                        IMO :

                        best
                        Emmanuel

                          Hello Emmanuel,

Those are good news, and now I can also see the top of the date: 1940!

Many thanks for your help and best regards,
                          Jeff

A nice original buckle by Assmann, as rightly said by Emmanuel
