    mint "43" dated buckle

    i received this buckle from vets wife along with a flag its mint condition and well marked the only thing i thought was strange i see (brass) ? peeking out where the paint has chipped i thought these late war buckle were steel i would appreciate comments

          Looks like a very nice Berg and Nolte steel buckle - I can't see any brass peaking out. You can easily tell whether it's brass or steel with a magnet.

            Have a close look at the worn bits, is there a green colour underneath? Could have been overpainted/sprayed at some point, hard to say without the buckle in hand.

              it is magnetic strange the metal peeking through has a gold tint to it thanks guys

                Steel tends to rust very easily - could it be a spot of rust?

                  i definetally see a thin was of brass under the chipped areas but the buckle is 100% magnetic
