Hello Ric Can you point out how to tell the real one from a fake. I wouldn't even consider buying a OT buckle. This was one of the rarest buckles and now at any Maxx or SOS shows you can find at least 15-20 of these buckles. Kirby

Here is a way to spot the fake - in seconds !

The attached photo merge has an original OT, flanked by 2 fake OT's.

Look at the claws and the swastika - nothing else. The fake buckles have claws which are dominated by a very pronounced vertical strip, whilst the original claws are clearly defined by the talons. The central and original buckle has a swastika that comfortably fills the wreath, whilst the fake has a slightly under sized swastika, with gaps.

Numerous other points, however this a a very quick and easy way recognise the fake.

        Regards,

        David

Even if I personally look at another "red flag" , David has perfectly pointed out the main features to detect a fake buckle.

            Kirby,

in my opinion OT remains one of the rarest buckles, 99 % of the ones offered on the markets are the deceitful reproduction made in East Europe (Hungary ?)

What's the "normal" price for this buckle without any paint ?

David pointed out a good way to recognise the good and the bad. There are other ways to, even easier but I have to keep that for myself. Sorry but if fakers get word of it even I will not see the diference anylonger....

A good buckle in super condition will still go for around 800 to 1000 euro at "official" dealers price ( Weitze, etc...) With no paint at all.... 500 minimum.

Guess in a few years we´ll see more ot buckles on the market than have even been in this organisation.

BRAVO ZULU to David for the very good reference.

I agree with Marc. Every time we show the things to look for to detect a fake buckle we just give the fakers the opportunity to change their dies. I am sure they monitor these chat sites. Maybe we need to just point out that it is bad and let the collectors do their own research on how to spot the fakes.

                              Hello all,
Does anyone know what firm made this buckle? Can anyone tell by the catch, "ears" or claws?
                              Cheers
