              Wonderful Examples!

              David,

I have just now had the opportunities to see your posted buckles. Outstanding! The reverses of those buckles look nearly identical! I had compared my buckle to my other SA examples and noticed that the shape of the raised "cup" that receives the belt clasp was more rectangular in shape on this buckle and your examples confirm this trait. The eagle on my and your SA buckles have the "smooth, round, fat" body and legs and a head just under the coil of the wreath. I would strongly suspect a cottage manufacturer assembled these as suggested. I am delighted to know that these examples have a precedent. I was going to swap or sell off this buckle before I realized just what an "odd bird" it actually is. Now it shall join its more "traditional" SA brethren as the "ugly duckling". Thank you to all!

              Great collecting,

              William
