    Hi Leigh,

There must be loads of people in your neck of the woods that could restore your beetle, what year is it?

    Evening All,

I have been trying to complete all the components around the drivers seat before I raise the crew compartment floor to the correct height but it's been a very time consuming process and I am not finished yet. The first part of the drive shaft cover, shin protection, is on and the fake brake drums are now secured in place, the vertical bracket securing the drive shaft cover wasn't on the original and will be hidden by a cover that goes over the area.

    That's it for now,

    Jon

      Hi Jon,

      It’s a 58 UK car so it’s got a bit of rot.
And yes plenty of people here can do. But going to try myself. Do the bits can’t see first to get to grips with welding before the bits can see. Well that’s my plan.

Best of luck with rest of build.

        Evening, Jon!

I'll warn you about the drive shaft. You shouldn't leave him like this. This design of the protective casing will not protect you from injury to the legs.
From the subject "resistance of materials" it is known that the most loaded section of the spline shaft is the boundary of its connection with the clutch hub(section A-A).

That is, if the shaft breaks, it's probably at this point. And this area is not covered by a protective casing. If the breakage occurs in motion, the chip will rotate over a large radius, this will allow a flexible rubber coupling. The right leg will be in the affected area.

The probability of such a breakdown in your design is quite high. Much higher than the original. The PZ-2 brake mechanism is located on the left side, and the drive shaft is not loaded with brake torque. Your design has a brake in the steering box, so the drive shaft is loaded with torque from the inertia of the tank. And moment from inertia heavy machines under a sharp braking can be higher than moment from engine, even on the most "a strong" 1 th speed.

In addition. Due to the lack of a second flexible coupling(at the side), your rigidly placed drive shaft experiences bending loads during dynamic deformation of the Board(remember the rod that connects the sloths, and why it was put...)

Alex, Patience old chap, the drive shaft cover isn't finished yet and what will be will be.

I managed to get the brake drum cover finished today.

Jon, it's beautiful! Hopefully all this will keep the load off.

              Evening All,

              Thanks Ale.

I have done a bit more work to the brake drums, just to try and make them look more realistic really.

There is a plate, that is bolted to the hull just behind the brake drums, it carries items of equipment, I need to replicate this plate and bolt it into position before I finish the brake drum linkage just in case it causes clearance issues.

I had the chance to buy a working set of clansman intercoms, so I took it. I hope to modify the commanders set so that they look like originals and camouflage the individual connection boxes.

              Jon

                    Evening All,

                    Lloyds,

I don't think that she will divorce me, she actually encourages me but thanks for the invite.

This is the plate that I was referring to in my last post, having made and fitted the plate it answers a question. One thing that has always bothered me was, what would happen to all those bolt heads should an impact occur on the side of the tank, in the real tank world. One would have thought, that some would have sheared off and ricocheted around the inside of the tank, causing injury or death. Now that I have made this plate, I think that I understand. The plate, along with several others, are not bolted directly to the hull side but stand off by about 20mm, in other words there is a gap between the hull and the plate, if there is an impact and the heads are sheared off the plate would stop them from flying around.

The plate should hold a first aid kit, that's the horizontal box, a tool kit, which I have yet to make, a spanner, feldflasche, and a magnetic lamp. I need help with the magnetic lamp, item "a" in the first picture, I cant find any pictures of one so, HELP!!!!

                    Jon

                        Jon,
Outstanding work. You shall be mentioned in dispatches!

One correction from your previous post, the vertical box that you have identified is actually a spare parts box.

                          Morning Ed,

I am only going by the "Beladeplan" (loading plan) dated 15-10-38, which describes that item as a Werkzeugkasten, translated as a Toolbox and from what I have found on the net for such an item.

Well.............have to confess that having caught up on this thread I am now feeling somewhat inadequate

My partner Julia stated it was most unfair that a single individual can have such talent, I had to get the jack out to close her mouth when she saw the fire place!

I think by the time this thread is complete we will have run out of superlatives.

The whole thing is just awesome.

From your own admission Johann you said you don't paint............for gods sake get someone else to pick the final colour!!!

                            Regards

                            Tim

Tim, what can I say but thanks.

I have at last finished the brake assembly, well apart from 5 springs.
A member of another forum pointed me in the right direction of the magnetic light, container and bracket.

I couldn't find a container of the right dimensions but I did have a piece of tube and I have a lathe so...……

It will not let me load the picture of an original container.
