      That's a model A, better known as the SdKfz. 250 'Alte' (old). The model B has a simplified hull and is know as the 'Neue' (new).

      A friend of mine has a mint restored SdKfz. 250/3 Neue which is a really fun vehicle to ride along with (yes, it is on the Shadock list ). I'll ask him if he has parts he wants to sell or trade, but don't get your hopes up. It might help if you have some (late) 3 ton Zugmachine or 251 parts for sale or trade?

      It looks you have a great project! Please post some 'before' pics and keep us posted on the restoration.

        Im also looking for interior pictures of the SDKFZ 250/9 ausf.b. I have the Extreme detail PDF and the original load manual, but they are somewhat vague in the inner hull details. I would like to visit the original in Kublinka, but I have heard its near impossible now. My buddy about 10 years ago was at the front gates and they wouldnt let him in. I was told you have to go through the military liasion, etc. I also have the Jentz series on the vehicle, but to get some hard numbers off the turret would be awesome. So far his measurements are correct for the hull, I scaled up from his drawings. My freind ran into him and Hillary at Aberdeen, and they said they have never been to Kablinka, yet in their book they state the measured an early production SDKFZ 250/9 ausf.b.....so is there another out there? I only know of the one in Russia, and an ausf a in France.

                Have you seen the inside of it? I wonder how complete it is? Pictures of the interior of the ausf. A and B are somewhat rare.

                    yes I"ve seen the interior of the saumur 250/9 and unfortunately its an empty hull, even the 20mm gun is missing from the gunmount

                    I don't know the condition of the Kubinka 250/9, but I suppose that won't be complete either ....just like the other vehicles in that collection

                    btw from where did your 250/9 came from?

                      It came from France. I think it was in England for awhile as well. From what I could see in the xtreme detail PDF, doesnt look like there is a lot to look at in the interior of the Kablinka ausf.b, but it would be nice to see atleast the walls of the hull. Between the D672/9 manual and the pictures of the interior at Samur, I should be able to get it close to how they had it set up. Maybe some additional photos will surface of the ausf.b interior, but I wont hold my breath.
                      I would also like to again thank eveyone for the help ive received so far.

                          Sd.Kfz. 250/9 alte of Saumur Museum

                          Hi Friends Collectors

                          Here some pictures of the Sd.Kfz. 250/9 alte of Saumur Museum. The pedestral mount, the 2.cm Kwk 38 gun and the MG34 are missing on this vehicle.







                          You can find a lot of pictures of the pedestral mount, the 2.cm Kwk 38 gun and the MG34 on the NUTS & BOLTS vol.04 about the Sd.Kfz.222 & 223 books (Kubinka vehicle). The turret isn't the same but I think the 2.cm Kwk 38 set yes.

                            Thank you Stephane. I have the production photographs of the ausf b turret and Haengelafette 38. It appears that the armored cars used a variant of the flak38 with the charging handle located at the front of the operating spring tube, which was smooth without the pressed metal reinforcing ribs. They moved the charging handle forward due to the mechanics of cocking the weapon in relation to where the crew sits, the flak 38 utlized a chain type connection from the handle to the bolt carrier. Pulling from the front backwards was alot easier than straight up at an awkard angle. Plus the turret screens could be left down durring this operation with the armored vehicle variant.

                            My current investigation is with the hull, ausf. A vs. ausf. B....was the equipment and ammo set up similar due to the somewhat different hulls. The ausf. B has some more room, so I wonder if they increased the amount of ammo boxes, etc? Also, since the Haengelafette didnt have a pedestall, where did they keep the ready to fire magazines and ammo boxes? On the pedestal mount, they had provisions to keep a couple of mags and boxes, but not on the Haengelafette. My guess is they just had to get another off the wall.

                            The ausf.b at Kablinka is most likely stripped out as well, so unless some new photos surface, I will go off of the D672/9 Manual for the ausf.a. The Saumur photos did answer some questions, such as they did bolt the 2cm mag. boxes to the floor, etc.
