And indeed a lot of small elements but perhaps among them, the one who will give the final answer, will be.

Since you found so many small parts, maybe the panzer was blown up using it own ammo that was still inside?

Try to widen your search area next time (in a circle of 25 m), maybe you'll find parts there too and thus proofs a theory of a massive explosion.

if you don't find anything in that wider search area, then the vehicle was simply scrapped on the spot.
        (...)

        Wider area secure

        Only few parts found there:

I think that there wasn't a large explosion but there was fire.

        Nice

I think that is Stug III and Panzer IV hub cap.

        That all...for now

I've seen an episode where parts of blown-up Pz.III were flyed away along the whole forest. Front plate was found at 1 km from the bottom...

In fact, I wish that a large explosion destroyed the tank because maybe I could find the big parts...

...now I keep my Panther tank(??) in a bucket.

            Pozdrawiam.

                Hi Paul

you did a major cleaning job

on the first pic with parts foundn in a wider area
I recogize the remains of a 75mm shell ( the rusty baseplate) the small alu shells probably are signal flares.

here are the answers for identification of my received parts : from right to left

                panzer III/StuG III roadwheel hubcap
                Panther roadwheel hubcap
Panzer IV (Ausf H/J) Sprocket hubcap

PS : Dufleuve , its my first Panzer III hubcap that I acquire and I need 3 at this moment ....when a 4th is found we can swap

PS Paul : the panther hub has been put in the electrolyse to proof my theory on paint remnants.

                ciao

                  black is black

                  Hi all,

ok electrolyse has done it thing.

remember the panther hubcap before ( cap in the center)
                  [IMG][/IMG]

                  then I did some electrolyse
                  [IMG][/IMG]

and after a few days it looked like this
                  [IMG][/IMG]

then some cleaning up had to be done with water and a soft steelbrush
and this is the final result
                  [IMG][/IMG]

                  [IMG][/IMG]

As you can see some remains of red oxide and sandgelb paint survived the 65 years of being buried
All the rustbits came off and turned the metal completely black.
After the hubcap has completely dried it can be primered or varnished and won't rust again.

so electrolyse doesn't affect paint , only rustbits will be removed. Paint that is fixed on rustbits will come off eventually, no matter what you'll do. Rust never rests , only if you treat it properly you can master it !
                  ciao

                    Hi.

                    Nice job Bullitt.

Panther hubcup...didn't even know that the Panther had hub caps - I learn something new every day

I must do the electrolysis for my lid. We will see what will come out.

                    Pozdrawiam.
                    Paul.

                      Panther hubcaps

                      Hi Paul

oh yes panthers do have hubcaps

each panther swingarm has 5 major components fixed : two roadwheels, one tube with flange and with bearings , one wheelring to bolt and one hubcap

here you see the swingarm with the tube with bearings that has a flange at the end and a Hub at the front

and here a wheel ring is fixed over the hub and bolted through the hub onto the tube with bearings
only the outer wheel needs to be fixed on this wheelring
                      [IMG][/IMG]

so the hubcap can only be removed if you remove a roadwheel first including the wheelring

                      ciao

                        Hi

                        I have no more questions
                        (about hubcaps, of course )

                        Pozdrawiam.
                        Paul

                          |
                          V

                          ??

Uff I did a electrolysis marathon:

The lid, no paint left, second screw hole was shown:

Definitely I must do electrolyse once again

                          Pozdrawiam.

                              Indicator light ??:
                              Markings:
                              NW 10 or 40 ARGOS XN... and K 11.
