Latest addition, batledamaged Sdkfz 251 wheel in full original paint -

    Comment

      hello,

these are my latest panzer items:

I know the 6 hole wheel hub is for a PzKpfw IV but what about the 8 hole hub? I believe the starting handle is for a Pz III-IV as also might be the track tension wrench. The wrench is much bigger than I expected. I have compared it to my foot.

I think at least Stug III -s handle is way biger, I have found one like this:

Perhaps Pz III and Pz IV crank handles are different. Mine looks more like the one on this video:

Could the 8 hole hub be for the idle wheel?

              hub

              Hi Carles

What is the diameter of the 8 hole hubcap?

              ciao

                hello Bullit,

the 8 hole hub is about 20 cm while the 6 hole one is 19 cm. I have asked a friend to take the mesure of both road and idle wheel of this Pz IV, to compare:

One question...were the crank handle and the wrench painted? or blued? I would like to clean and restore them.

                  8 hole hub

                  Hi Carles

I just checked on my P4 Idler and if your 8 hole hub is 20 cm its a match!
you just need to add a bolt in the middle as greaser.

the color of tools is always a guess ....mostly painted is my guess
bare metal or blued would lead to rust

                  ciao

                    Thanks for the info Bullit,

I have been cleaning the items. Both hub caps had some remains of red primer and dunkelgleb. The crank handle is cleaning very well but the wrench is quite pitted. You can guess a different metal composition on them. Neither the handle nor the wrench seem to be painted. I will try to post some pics tomorrow.

                      Well,

I've been working a bit this weekend: the road wheel hub cap is clean, the crank handle about a 75%. I have hardly touched the idle wheel hub cap but have done a bit of the wrench.

Bullit, seems the handle was painted dunkelgelb without primer.(pic #2)

                        cleaning

                        Hi Carles

How did you clean the parts ? moter tool or electrolyse?

At the beginning everything was primered in red oxide primer but lateron this was somethimes neglected and parts were sprayed in the final color.
The quality of the paint degenrated too at the end of hostilities ..sometimes water based.

                        ciao

                          Hello Bullit,

With a black&decker and wire brushes, sand paper discs and rolling sand paper straps. If I can finish my kids carnival disguises (Funboy and Chumchum) I might finish cleaning these part next weekend, and then I'll paint them. The pics were taken today by my friend C.S.

                              This weeks new stuff:
                              RSO:

Is this Jack stand also RSO specific? I need to now, I promised to sell RSO parts to friend who is restoring RSO. But I would like to left the Jackstand to myself.

Two camshafts proabably from german technic. Upper I think is from Sdkfz 251, lower is unknown.
