In Russia somewhere

In Russia somewhere, an NSU 251 OSL. Officialy the Wehrmacht regulations dictated that bike with a motor capacity of less than 350cc (like this 250model) would not need a passenger saddle...this explains why you always see DKW350's with 2 saddles and small engined NSU's with 1. There were exceptions like civilian requisitioned bikes or modified (field added) types...My NSU 251 came with both original "drilastic" saddles mounted (unlike this period image of same bike!
Its interesting that I own the original image, but another WAF member also owns an exact same copy... as I've seen it here before! What a coincidence!

The Zündapp KS600 (post 22) is cosmetically restored and would look good in a museum as a static display bike (most are!), its a put together survivor from Russia.

It still has Russian spark plugs and the speedometer is Russian. The advance timing controll lever is also Russian and not original... all proof that it was used in Russia during the war left behind...so post war used in the USSR. The engine does not match the frame (which would otherwise be rare). Not an issue really.

The biggest issue is that the engine needs to be overhauled as well as ALL electrical and that could cost north of $10K for such a complicated opposing twin (boxer) engine(600cc) + carburator rebuild+ brakes + control cables and the transmission is another unknown? reliable?
So plenty of work and expenses...Somebody else wants to tackle this so I might be cutting it loose now... transaction is being handled via a consignment dealer).

The zundapp went from Germany to Ostfront (Russia), back to Germany, than to California and now possibly going to Spain! A well traveled bike!

My NSU (post 26) is a lot easier to restore, is number matching (engine/frame) and easier to operate/maintain. Once its running it will be a way more reliable bike! History: this NSU went from Germany to East front, got left behind in Bulgaria, went to Germany, from Germany to Holland and in 2009 it will be in California...Its in storage in Holland right now, as I might have shipped to Poland for a complete Wehrmacht look restoration, before shipping it to California! Can't wait!

Hi Larry, yeah when I saw your picture of this bike (post 31), I could not believe my eyes as I purchased this exact same photo from e-bay Germany... I paid silly money for it in 2007...something like $8 dollars + postage, but I wanted it bad as its an image of my motorcycle in WH service!

Here's an NSU 251, NSU 201 (bottom left and right)
along with (I think) a German made "Triumph"..., yes the Germans also made "Triumph" brand motorcycles! (unrelated to the British types!)...its not an NSU...of course... but a cool paint scheme and its also a "Leichtes Kraftrad ("light dispatch bike) worth sharing.

This NSU 251 bike belongs to an acquaintance from Germany. Its restored to the highest standard using mostly original parts...Even the leather saddle bags are original... He sent me loads of images as reference material for my project! These images are very motivational I think!
