Unusual L10 pin marked Black WB

    Hello again:

I would like to get your comments and opinions on this L10 pin marked BWB.

In my experience to date, L10 black wound badges have been of the enlarged Odd Helm or Deschler type which differs from this more typically designed example.

My example, acquired at this years SOS is pin marked clearly....L10. I have triple and quadruple checked this under magnification (and with my glasses on ). I have no photo files of an L10 of this type, and wasn't aware they were "out there".

If you are familiar with these and/or could share photo files of similar examples, I would appreciate hearing from you. If you are like me, and this is a first for you too, I'd love to hear your input on the badge.

I was able to finally pick up a 118 marked to the pin BWB at the SOS. I think everyone had one of these BUT ME, so I was glad to pick it up as well.

As ever....thanks for taking the time to view the thread and comment. A digital camera will be in my future, I promise.

    Dennis

Well Dennis all the Deschler hollow WBs that i have seen in brass and steel made alloy have the characteristic design on the front, they are larger in dimensions from the others and bearing the 'standard' hardware set up with the concentric rings.

Your L/10 doesn't match for Deschler WB and maybe the maker mark has been added later or the pin is a replacement.
Overall the WB is looking good but not a Deschler WB IMO, the 118 is a nice textbook example.

                Hello Dennis,<o =""></o>
                <o =""></o>
Actually I have seen some of this type of L/10<o =""></o>
Badges before, and I think they overall looks good<o =""></o>
                About the makers mark I don’t know, but if I find<o =""></o>
One I’ll buy it. I haven’t seen any black badge with the<o =""></o>
Odd design with the L/10 mm yet.<o =""></o>

                  Chris and Ronny:

Thanks for responding....I was hoping you would.

Like Chris said, the only L10 marked example I have seen previously were photo files of the oversized design which I call the "odd helm". While I must have two of these in silver and four or five in black, none of mine are maker marked, but I do have a variety of setups amongst the group.

My L10 marked example (of the more typical WB size and design) shows no signs of having a pin replacement. Ronny, I am encouraged by the fact that you have seen such examples yourself.

I'm not sure what to think of this maker mark, but the badge is convincing in hand. Could the "odd helm" types represent early production efforts. If this were true, and they switched designs to the more typically found design later in the war, how come their later SWBs did not undergo a design change as well?

Right now this badge remains a bit of a mystery to me.

                  Dennis

                    Dennis and Ronny,

Sure its a mystery WB but i don't think that is a Deschler WB, the reason that i insist is because this elegant maker produced variety of awards, tinnies, etc. Therefore was quite busy company and i'll not be surpriced if another maker produced WB's for him.

For WB's he produced on the hollow issues brass, steel and zink( the type who has the Wernstein set up). For solid issues produced non-ferrous and zink WBs, with these type of materials he covers all the period and all they have the same design on the front, another point that i don't think is a Deschler variation.

I had in the past his hollow maker marked steel type and i was looking for his brass type and if i ever be lucky the zink marked, now i have found the brass and i'm looking the steel ! How strange is life sometimes ehh

Here a brass example for your reference that i'll have it in a few days.

My opinion is that Deschler possibly supplied another maker with needle pins pins for whatever reason. This version is not at all like any Deschler that I have seen.....
