This is the second one of these that I've seen recently (or perhaps the same one posted again?). The last one turned up on the "other" forum, the final decision was inconclusive as it doesn't match the accepted pattern on the reverse. It usually has the area name also in raised letters as well as the NSDAP.

      Cheers
      Don

        Hi Don,
Thanks for your prompt response. I greatly appreciate it.
Could you please post or PM the link to the "other" forum you mention as I am unaware of ever having seen it.
        Thanks!

I'll PM it to you as I'm not sure that we are allowed to link to other forums & would hate to fall foul of the rules here.

          Cheers

            Thank you, Don.
I did recall seeing one of these here recently on eStand.

Cone's book shows this badge with the GES. GESCH. and the gau district in addition to the NSDAP.
He states "there are no existing records stating how many were produced."
He also noted that variants existed.

John and Don, Perhaps the reason for no gau district is that it is an un-issued example. I myself have one with only the NSDAP on it exactly like the one under discussion. It would seem logical no?? Just my opinion. Cheers Robert

Here is the reverse. Notice the red oxidation on it though.

I'm not sure I buy the "unissued" theory, mainly because the name had to be made into the die at the time of making. They would need to know at the time of making which Gau they were intended for.

However, it could be that there were some general badges made just in case other areas requested them later. To save making more at a later date....

                        Cheers

i agree the unissued theory does not make sense since the die is raised....
i dont have a problem with just the NSDAP logo...though of course the full name would be more desireable.....the biggie for me is the construction...i have see this verison in the past....

                              Robert & TerryG,
                              Thanks for posting your badges.
Note the different shape to the pin mount on Terry's badge.
