Adolf Hitler award badge NSDAP gold party pin - odd engraving font

Hello all,

I recently came across this badge I guess I'm just curious about it. While the obverse appears resemble a good 30.5mm Deschler to me, the engraving font is very peculiar when compared to other honor dates.

Any thoughts on this one for me please? I was under the assumption that only one font was deemed as authentic, or are there accepted variations? Also to note is that the year does not appear as "43" but rather "1943" and the fact that A.H. is below the date, where we usually see the Adolf Hitler initials above the date.

Would someone have removed the existing number to change it to an Ehrenhalber AH version? Or perhaps a reissue if the marks on the reverse indicate reworking.

I think it was pointed out in another thread that examples with A.H. either above or below the date are found in collections and the Patzwall reference book. I am not aware of any requirements as to markings and aside from the whatever unknown jeweler sources used by Schwarz's office which could have accounted for variations in font, we know that at least one private jeweler was used to prepare some official A.H. GPBs.

The Warsau Uprising ended on May 15, 1943. I wonder if a pin may have been given to a commander who oversaw the operation.

There are numerous possibilities. Even Himmler gave out the occasional Honor Ring with dates not commonly seen.

Well chalk that comment of mine up to latent senile tendencies. I'm starting to worry. I did not even notice the May 15th date. Truly I didn't. I just saw the 1943. Am I losing it? I will check Patzwall's refrences tonite.

No, Patzwall does not identify any award on 15 May 1943. Since it looks genuine (certainly the obverse, and variations to the font on the reverse can be observed), a research into the subject should be performed, with the objective to identify the recipient / potential recipients. Could be an important personality !

The material used by Patzwall available in the National Archives consists of relatively detailed coreespondence and records of the presentation of the Ehrenhalber GPB through 1942. The awarding of the Ehrenhalber GPB in 1943 was meant to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the coming to power. These records are basically of a master list and corresponding letters and telegrams to respective political and state leaders advising them of the awarding of the A.H. GPB to party members according to their recommendations. There is no mention in these documents of any date after 30.1.1943. Of course one cannot be certain that this documentation contains all records of awards given the nature of its acquisition and the considerable problem of maintenance of records into the war.

Regarding the discussion on the "accepted" engraving order for Hitler's initials A.H. and the date, this badge appeared in a 2013 auction and sold for £2000. The catalog was small size and glossy paper resulting in a relatively poor image. But the "A.H. 30.1.39 " would appear to be another variation of marking.

May 15th is my birthday, so that makes this badge all the more special to me!

Whilst it is not in Patzwall it is probably another ad hoc award I find the engraving primitive nonetheless the badge is good.An obvious candidate would be Jurgen Stroop

that would be most interesting but would it say he was awarded this type of AH honor badge in his research file, or how would I go about linking the original owner to this piece?
