Hello - an interesting piece but I am not convinced it is as it seems. First, I think the butterfly has been added (maybe because of the blurb on the back). The reason I think it has been added is because it is blocking a good portion of the word "...scheidig" above Graefenthal which strikes me as very odd. Then I have never seen a combination of cardboard and porcelain. In Tieste there is a very similar cardboard piece that says "Besucht Thueringen Das gruene Herz Deutschlands Kauft Thueringens Werterzeugnisse" (Tieste 00-08) - so the same except for the advertising part. So my opinion would be that it's a nice looking piece but not altogether original as made. Just my opinion mind you!
Attached is the butterfly used from the Mutter und Kind organization.

Thanks for the interest, no goo on the base of the butterfly, its manufacture and butterfly application is period and what i gather its to advertise the butterfly series, as im sure your aware its very nice to have the butterfly still attatched to the actual body, its survived in very nice condition. Pete.

Hello:
Not sure what kind of "foot" you are referring to. From what I can see in your side shot it is nothing more than what is there for the series produced butterflies. I have attached a reverse shot of this specific butterfly and can show plenty more to illustrate the fact that they all had a "foot" to attach the pin. As to my original point, in my opinion it would not be much of an advertising piece if you hide the name of the maker. After some searching I found out it's Carl Scheidig and they went out of business in 1972 if my research is correct. Kind of got absorbed into a state manufacturer in the old DDR.
I'm just basing my comments on logic since I can't find anything at all online about this piece. Curious as to your comment "produced as is with the butterfly as intended in its design". Have you seen others? Do you have any documentation?
I would like to hear more from Guy on this.
