    References?

    Hi All:

I would like to know which books would be recommended for a begginer looking to collect party, and civil awards. I am mainly interested in political related awards, and NSDAP badges. I have a couple of books already: the first is Chris Ailsby's A Collectors guide to World War 2 German Medals and the second is John Angolia's For Fuhrer and Fatherland Vol 2. Which other books would you guys recommend?

    Many thanks in advance:

I hope you get the answers you want. I have created a link with another thread on books which I started in the Die Kniepe some time ago...I am trying to get a dedicated book section going. Anyway, this link should draw quite a few people's attention to your own thread.

      Matthew,

If you wish to collect enamels, then the only real reference is JR Cone's "One People One Reich, Enameled Organisational Badges of Germany 1918 - 1945".

Other important reference work on political awards are Angolia's FFaF (which you have), "In the service of the Reich", which touches on DRK badges & awards, & "Labour Organisations of the Reich" which covers shows some of the awards & badges you can find belonging to the RAD, DAF, KDF, RKK etc

LittleJohn & Dodkins two volume set "Orders, Decorations, Medals & Badges of the Third Reich" is also a very important work.

"A Collector's Guide to the RZM marks of the NSDAP" by Stephen Lautens will guide you through the complex system of maker marks & explain what to look for to avaoid fakes.

Heering & Hüsken "Katalogue der Abzeichen deutscher Organisationen 1871-1945" will be of an aid as well.

Those should set you on the road.

      Cheers
      Don

          Hi All:

I want to thank all who replied to this post, like I mentioned I am new to this particular hobby but I know from my other hobby "plastic modeling" research is not only helpful but many times essential to the enjoyment of that hobby.

I will now begin the task of hunting these books down. Many many thanks!!

              Not at all.

I've found it an invaluable tool, it's answered many of the questions I've had for years.

              Cheers
