    Gau Wartheland

I would like to hear your opinions regarding this badge. Not my area of collecting...

    Wow, looks good to me.

However, I will wait for the Gauleiter from Alberta, Matthew to provide his opinion.

Different rivets, hinge and catch compared to this one:

Yes, it does look good but something tells me that it is not. The finer details appear to be missing-for instance the stippling between the arms of the swas and the whole piece appears to have soft features.

        Compare it with my own:

I would agree with Stan - I see softer features that could potentially be a cause for concern. I'm not comfortable with it.

I wouldn´t say that is a fake so quickly.
Rivet and pin for this kind of badge were made in diferent ways and the one shown here is ok in this aspect, and are exact to Stan´s item. Soft details? Well, the picture is very amplified. Probably watching in hand nobody talks that this badge have soft details. And the flaws.... I can see the kind of flaws to be worried in this badge.
A very good point in favour: the first marked 3 is made exactly in the same way than the Stan´s one. So I´d say that if the first one is a fake, the third one is also.
              Jiust my opinion.

Has anyone ever seen a list published by Reichsgau Wartheland which includes a key linking the number on the reverse of each badge to a recipient's name? If so, I'd love to see such a list!

                Cheers,

I agree it has a very weird reverse color compared to the others showed here.

For a badge issued in such limited number I find it interesting you have two different abbreviations for the word Nummer (number). The normal German abbreviation for number (Nummer) is No. and not Nr. The English language uses the abbreviation of Nr. Perhaps some of our German colleagues could chime in about using both Nr. and No. on these badges.

An interesting observation, Richard. And it isn't only the abbreviation that's different between the badges shown on this thread; there appear to be three different base planchets in use, as well. Perhaps it is the very reason that there were so few of these pieces issued that such differences appear, one to another example? Just a thought...

I'm not an expert in these but looking among all the badges, Ron's gives me confidence. The Nr, in particular r seems well engraved showing the care and painstaking effort that was put into the badge. The Nr from Kai Winkler differs and looks more scrubbily engraved. Perhaps this is just me - JMHO.
