      I think it's neither in this case. I believe the badge as shown by Stan left the factory with this hardware attachment- 'military style' pin as called by some.
      Looking at the original pin groove, it is easy to see no solder or any of its traces in it, something that would have to be present if the badge was converted at a later date. Also- it is not the only one of this kind of set-up out there.
      Rare beast for sure.
