    Jakob Grimminger's gold party badges

    Hello All - Although things like the gold party badges and Coburg badges are out of my reach I always like to check out the threads.

    I am surprised no one has put up a thread bringing attention to the fact that Josef Grimminger's small and large gold party badges and document (along with various other items) are for sale at the next Thies auction. Maybe I just overlooked any new thread on this but I did a search for his name aand saw nothing. Estimate is 10,000 Euros.

    If you download Thies's catalogue it's in the section 353 to 384.

          Thanks for this heads-up, Curt. In fact, one of our colleagues here has already put up pix from the announced Grimminger collection, including the matched set of GPBs, on another website Forum. For myself, I was immediately taken by the odd and unusual application of the NSDAP membership numbers to the reverse of the Fuess-marked badge. Normally the numbers on Fuess-marked GPBs form an arc at the bottom edge of the reverse, though in the case in point, the numbers were applied in a straight line, just the way Deschler would have applied them. Very odd, to say the least...

                  Grimminger was a party member like everyone else so why would his badge be numbered differently? That poses a question and a problem as far as I'm concerned. The 24mm badge made into a stick pin that Ulric of England had for sale had the correct numbering. These badges? Hmmmm.

                    Fronts.
                    On the left- Grimminger badge. On the right- original Deschler. And in the middle- something off of Charlie Snyder's website. Found in the Berghof area with the COA upon request.

                    Hyphen between L-S, spot where the swastika touches the band above the A in D.A.P. general size of the lettering, silver/gold swastika outline, Z in SOZIALISTISCHE, I in NATIONAL, thickness of the outer band, etc.

                      Also what's the story of so much items still being together after the first auction. In the foreword of the book it is said that the items were "scattered"?

                        Thanks, Matt, for raising the issue of the font style...being apparently identical on both the large Deschler and the small Fuess-marked badge...I noticed that, too, and thought that I had initially raised it. Glad you did, as it is important here.

                        Is there any provenance with this matched set that links it back to Jakiob Grimminger? While it was not rare that a Pg. had additional individual and matched sets of GPBs made for various uniforms over time (I have occasionally wondered how many individual GPBs were actually made and distributed/sold to members over the years!), the history of this particular set calls out for further documentation, especially since there are questions regarding the numbering on the pieces. If anyone would bid on a matched set of GPBs that once belonged to such a noted personage as Jakob Grimminger, the permanent bearer of the Blut Fahne, that person's bid would certainly need to be significant in amount!

                          Last time I saw the same (or very similar) font used on a GPB was on the Maurice piece. That badge too had a center disc that was deemed 'different' so to speak.
