However, to criticise those of us who expressed disappointment that his extensive collection of awards was not catalogued and offered at auction as many of us had expected has nothing to do with not missing John as a fellow member of WAF; nor has it anything to do with not wanting John's wishes to be respected; nor has it anything to do with not wanting his family to receive the best price for his pieces.

I am sure we will get over it a lot quicker than we will get over losing John as a friend.

Excuse me Stan, but on what basis can you state that his collection was not cataloged and offered at auction? Do you have any knowledge of what was in that collection the day he died? He wrote/emailed me the Friday before he was to pass away, listing his medical problems from the past week and identifying three appointments with physicians the coming week including his Pulmonologist the day he died. In his last sentence he said he was on the verge of calling Jason (Burmeister) about selling out and asked my suggestions.

I shared tables with John at the past 10+ SOS Shows, roomed at the same hotel and ate at the same restaurants. He had disposed of a great deal of material over the past few years including the famous daggers like the SS Prototype. Several years ago he sold me a GPB grouping to a SS/Police administrative official that I had requested. The past few shows, my sons helped him load his car. He always had some GPBs to try and sell as well as some SS material. And his prices were high. He was selling but no buying much, though for some reason he bought my police trumpet banner that is on the auction.

Everyone thinks he had a vast collection at the end and all though extensive, it was surprisingly short in some areas. After his death, his collection and home were secured by his daughter. She contacted two of his closest friends and his financial advisor. I provided what documentation I could find over the past ten years from my correspondence. He had everything listed and priced. I am writing this because of the innuendo in some of the postings that this is not his complete III Reich militaria collection. That is bogus.

There were some "bequests" in his notes of the single BO that he owned and two of the GPB sets to help others. 99% of John's collection is on this auction.

Whether it's 154 or 72 it's still a lot of GPBs to put in the marketplace. It will be interesting to see what effect their sale will have on prices.

I agree with my esteemed colleague, Dietrich.

Not having had the pleasure of knowing the deceased, I think I can take the liberty of expressing my opinion that whatever John or his family chose to do with his possessions was his/their decision alone, and to question those decisions, or worse yet, to insinuate shady business a la "grave robbing" (sorry to bring that up again) is beneath the decorum one would expect here.

                Clarification

I do not know how we got here ? A lot of assumptions I suppose I was not questioning anyone's integrity !! I was merely alluding to the fact that some nice items from JP 's have already gone to those he promised them to, perhaps some people read into"flown" too deeply...anyhow let us move on !!
                Regards Kyle

Let's discuss the items themselves. Who cares who his best friend was, or the biggest member of his inner circle, or the one with the most inside info etc.

To move this forward, does anyone know what happened to this ZA pin from John's collection?
