I believe it was said that certain things were held aside for certain people. Totally understandable after a lifetime of collector relationships!

Will the remaining stuff at the auction be visible at one point?

Really? What do you know and what are you looking for?. I can tell you that as much as John was an open book with collectors for information on the ask, he was not an open book on the deals he was making. The guy was making deals and till the day he passed away. In addition there were pieces that were promised or allocated to others and within his written wishes when he passed. There were deals done right up to the end. So, what do you know? because I know where pieces went under the direction of John and his estate under the direction of council. Now, that collection went into immediate lock down when the man died. He was gone for 3 weeks before most even knew he was gone. So enlighten me?.

Amazing that a seasoned GPB collector like John did fall for an Austrian fake.

JMO but one man assembling 150 GPBs shows they are not really that rare. JP had a lot of cool and rare stuff in his collection but I don't think selling all his GPBs at once is a good idea - maybe 30 a year over 5 years would be better.

yes because then his family would get more money as there will be a flood with them!

Ya know, the catalog came out today and all I got between phones and e-mail was a quick scan of the catalog and I wrote down 5 lots of interest. If John had an Austrian fake he probably knew it and he made an occasional mistake but not too many so maybe the house missed it and it was just in with the others. The guy was very sharp and was essentially cat like. You were not going to get much by that guy and he probably bought it back in the 80's on a risk/reward calculation. It is so irrelevant in reality as there is no one that I know in my entire life ever... that was mistake proof. John was like like the you tube video's where people tie little baggies to their cats feet to watch them walk funny, and that is kind of what he would do if you handed him a ringer.

I remember one show where there was a badge in a box and I had the thing in my hand and laid some cash on the seller and told him I want an opinion, this way he is not following me around to see who I am talking to. Now that box was good, really good and I tossed that in John's hand without the badge and he looked at it and looked around and then he say's to me this... I remember when a whole bunch of these came out around 1973 from Britain, and I looked at the box and realized why I wanted the inspection as it was British work but not what I had typically seen. And in 1973 I was 8 years old.

Missing this and fake that, bla bla bla. What you all need is a little respect and to focus your energies on detecting the fakes instead of the family and the man having a fake badge in his riker mount. Truth be told, I doubt very highly if John Pepera cared if Jon Fish had 13 or 14 blood orders in the end. What he cared about was making deals and his family and the deals came 2nd. You guy's should stop bitching cause the guys that are crying are exactly the same ones that John would go around which is why you don't have the pieces now and maybe why you will not have a chance in the future.

There's a lot of fine GPB's on the HH site, the only problem is dealing with HH, say you win a nice set for 3100 euro, by the time u pay all their fees and charges it will be like $6k, and they declare full value on the customs forms so buying from Australia is really not an option.

How do I know? Well it might be the fact that I sold him said items...no bitching here and get off your high horse before you fall off.Just my pennethworh and I was merely making an observation since when has that been whining???

                            Gold Party Badges

Nice selection from JP's collection however are these things rare ??? Of course not I use to collect these and at one point held 20 plus. Will that affect the price- probably yes, however there are two plum rare ones up for grabs namely :
Adolf Wagner's Gold Party Badge and Ebersteins offering my guess is that the former will hit 10k and the latter 6-7k where it will end up, possibly Russia.
Wagner probably had half a dozen of these I wonder where the rest are?
                            Regards Kyle

Still, with all due respect to John, you can see the dedication - the amount of time, effort and work spent to collect, document and also learn from those things that he collected. John also had a liking for TK rings. I haven't looked at the HH pages there yet as there's just so many things to scan. I remember that back then when I was about to do a deal with John, he was selfless and sent me pics of his TK rings and was kind to share information and patient enough to let me absorb and think through.

Speaking about GPBs - some of you might know that I'm looking for one. What kind of criteria would you look at apart from the condition and price? Yes, some are attributed but why would a particular badge holder appeal to you? Is that because say the badge holder would come from a certain background and you collect items from those areas? Or is there any other reason, apart from a well known badge holder having a high ranking profile, etc.? I'm no expert in GPBs - would someone PM me more about the suspected Austrian fake? Which is it? Sorry to be blunt. Many thanks, all.
