So not being in the inner circle, what I'm getting is that half (perhaps the best half?) of JP's GPB collection has already been sold.

The persons spreading this garbage has not even named an item that is missing, I know whats missing and I know why for the most part. You guys want to scream up and down about missing items and it may be easy for outsiders to think something was mishandled, it was not mishandled, it was handled in line with John's wishes and possibly in the wishes of the family, which by the way trumps forum boys as its the family that matters in the end.
So I would suggest or even encourage a couple loud mouth's stating what they know to step forward with the pieces that have somehow been misappropriated or were sold. Wash maids are more accurate with their information and even more discreet that some forum people. The catalog is what it is and it represents what has been listed to date, and minus items that were expressly stipulated by John Pepera himself to go elsewhere. So get a life because it is his family that matters, and you guys and even I are secondary. The difference with me is that I understand that and I understand why that is. I can live with it as that is what the man wanted.

What to know a secret? John did not give a crap about you when he was alive, I really doubt he cares about what you think now. Take a hike. Anyone else that wants to step up here with their mouths feel free, but the bottom line is, the catalog and the collection was handled appropriately and professionally and there is nothing "missing" that is not supposed to be missing.Last edited by J. I do not think you want to see my intellectual capacity here, what you see as a problem with an auction catalog is not a problem. It is an estate that trumps you. You said " I know some high end stuff has already flown ". You don't know nothing, you keep pushing the argument with me and I will open up with what I know and that includes things that may put your claims to the test and your credibility. So name your pieces or keep quiet and back up your claims or keep quiet and stop leading people to believe that the catalog has been pillaged.

As an outsider i follow this topic with interest. What i wonder is what all this fuzz is about? I never talked to John Pepera but he seemed like a great man with many connections to many collectors that he even after his death somehow helped by honoring promises he made while alive. The auction at HH is what it is, if things are not listed it simply means they are either sold, traded, promised to someone or withdrawn by the family or for whatever reason not (yet) listed. It appears by J. Wraith's replies who knew John Pepera, that this was John's own choice or now his families choice, as i see it those are the only people who as owners of the items have the right to do with his collection as they like. Just be glad that a part of his collection is for sale at all. If you like an item bid on it, if not than not. Simple, right? If it's not your own item than don't get involved on what or how someone should handle their own collection.
I always thought John was medalcollector, but there are quite a few interesting daggers and swords listed too. Didn't read anyone comment on those?
Let's focus on the items guys, that's all that matters now, isn't it?

In a way this thread reminds me of the morbid bickering of relatives left out of the will who thought they deserved something and didn't get it. A collector who had a passion and knowledge about a subject he was willing to share is gone, never again to be the valuable resource he was to our community. That's the biggest loss here, not what one might have missed out on from the collection he left behind.
Whether it be John himself or his family, the collection is theirs to dispose of as they see fit not to offer it to all who might be interested. Personally I would rather have John and his knowledge back on this forum than having a shot at acquiring what his passing left behind.

Richard, no one disputes many of the sentiments that you have just expressed.
However, to criticise those of us who expressed disappointment that his extensive collection of awards was not catalogued and offered at auction as many of us had expected has nothing to do with not missing John as a fellow member of WAF; nor has it anything to do with not wanting John's wishes to be respected; nor has it anything to do with not wanting his family to receive the best price for his pieces.
I am sure we will get over it a lot quicker than we will get over losing John as a friend.

Gentlemen,
there are some harsh words in this thread and also some accusations. Please let's proceed like this: no more harsh words and if somebody wants to repeat the assertion that "parts are missing" and went "to an inner circle" he should have the courtesy to name the missing parts and the inner circle. If not, it is just spreadin rumors for whatever unpolite reason and that is not in the spirit of the forum.
Thank you all!
