    HJ Sports Badge set?

    Hello,

In a small lot of badges were these two.
It's a silver and black example of the leistungsabzeichen.
Both with the same number and marked with RZM M1/63.

I don't really like them and would like to get some opinions.

    Thanks.
    Jim

Both looks ok by the pictures, but having the same numbering the red lights are switch on. Why don´t you like them? It would be interesting if somebody post a picture of the reverse of one of these from the same maker to chek the pin and the MM. The soft details of the MM is worring too, but not a ultimate sign to say if original or not. The texture of the polished parts of the black one is IMO the most worring question from these pictures.

Is it the lighting or angle of the picture that makes it appear there is no ribbing between two of the arms of the swastika on the black badge? Very coincidental to have these numbered the same although with a quick look everything, other than the ribbing would appear OK.

Thanks both. Good to hear it looks okay.

The ribbing on the black example is present, just angle and lightning which makes it look odd.

My biggest concern was the 'M1/63' which is a bit sloppy, mainly on the silver one.
The numbering is however the same as on other original badges.

That central offset crimp that holds the pin to the pin plate is a modern feature IMO.

Your "opinion" would be very wrong, as the exact same feature is found on many period attachment plates.

Were any originals of these ever made from zinc?

As the numbered badges were made separately in each finishing, the chance that the same number had been made bay the same maker were scarce, but the more incredible were that the same number of diferent classes had been found now and brough together. The same holder never received the same number when got two or three diferent classes. The numbering of each class ran separately.
Any case, the quality of these fakes are amazing. They can fool to every expert, and sold separately without the red light hold by the coincidence of the numbers in both badges.

                            Hi Gregorio
I bought all three grades with the same number 2 years ago and put them to the test. (I knew of course that they were fake, i just wanted to have fun with them, which i did!) I collect these myself, so to me, in hand, none of these can pass as genuine, they are not "good" they are simply shocking, and because they are made from Zinn (Tin) [they melt if you hold a lighter to them] they are as light as a feather. These fakes, are the easiest to recognize! The really hard to distinguish fakes are the early ones made from the correct materials, and the unmarked ones made from zinc - and other metals. (When i say unmarked i mean a few "variants" of unmarked fakes, unmarked altogether (in zinc and other metals) , only marked with the RZM logo and a number (M1/34 and M1/72 spring to mind) etc etc....

In saying that, i buried one of the cheap bronze versions with the same number as these here, and a while later, after patina had been added, it would fool many people.. but only the images.. not if you had it in-hand.

Jo, thanks for the response, but the way it is worded:

"The really hard to distinguish fakes are the early ones made from the correct materials, and the unmarked ones made from zinc - and other metals"

Leaves it unclear if zinc is one of the correct materials or if the "unmarked ones made from zinc" means only unmarked fakes are zinc. Would any originals be made of zinc? Sorry if I didn't fully understand the answer in how you structured your sentence.
