Would any originals be made of zinc?

Yes, a few HJ badges were made from zinc. The silver-washed solid zinc versions, like those from Wurster (example) fit in with the time period when zinc was being used on most trivial items like these, end of 1942 possibly into the middle - and even the end of 1943. There were supposed to be no more badges after the end of 1944, according to the HJ-Wiki.
I dont believe that there has been a version found to date in blackened or bronzed zinc, only either in raw zinc, or silver washed zinc as is the one in the above link.
