        C Badge

Here is an "A" and "B" glider badge in metal along with their cloth counterparts .... perhaps this is the one you are looking for.

          C

And a "C" badge with its award certificate. The badge is numbered on the back and matches the certificate.

Here are the requirements for the three class of awards
              a. 'A' Certificate: 30 second free flight with no maneuvers required. This resulted in a badge with one gull inside a solid circle.
              b. 'B' Certificate: 60 second free flight with 'S' turn maneuver This qualification earned the German Glider Permit and a badge with two gulls in a solid circle.
              c. 'C' Certificate: At this level one went from just a glider permit to an Official Soaring License. It was a more rigorous flight test and oral exam. This resulted in a badge with three gulls in a sold circle.
As you can see in the picture the instructor has the 'C' grade award.

The Achievement 'C' badge you are referring too was given for long endurance flights of at least 5 hours returning to point of take off, or reaching an altitude of 3,300 feet three times in one flight. I haven't heard of one with diamonds.

                    hello James,

in Detlev's catalog he mentions about 4 gold with diamonds awarded in 1942 and Forman's catalog mentions this class but without any other information.
Detlev mention silver oakleaf class and gold oakleaf class too.

                    regards

I have seen a couple of what would appear to be the silver oakleaf class for sale and they don't seem to be overly expensive unless they are just a variation on the normal embroidered badge. Rather than the embroidered ring they have a bullion wreath with a gap at the top. I never realised that this could be a separate class or I would have bought them

                        the civil glider badges

                        Hello,

The so called C badge with silver wreath is much commonly known as the Silver-C.

This silver C is to be credited as excesively rare also and all original awarded pieces are nowadays very hard to find. The same is though for the award document wich was much more ornat then the A, B or C classes.

I have attached a original silver C award document for you in the attachement => i can give you exact numbers and these do not run above 2000 untill 1943.

The price settings in the Niemann book are IMHO just curious => such a rare badge for not even 100 €, well i would be very happy to find one and i am always happy with offers for those reference pricings !!!

The gold C was also awarded during teh pre- war, early war years but that number is even more exceptional => only about 15 awarded !!!!!!!!!!!! (once again teh same criteria about pricing are to be considered.)

The gold C with diamonds was never awarded in the pre-war years and is only a new kind of award that dates from teh afterwar years .

                        Cordial greetings,
my collectionfield : German glider pilots

                            Hello Stijn,

thank you very much for this info.
I agree with you about the price of this rare badge.
in fact, I saw one C badge with silver wreath past week for sale in 500 euros
I attached the photo of the silver C badge tha I saw for sale.
Do you know the award criteria for silver C and gold C ?
Do you have any idea of like was the gold C with diamonds? I do not have very clear if this badge w/ diamonds were awarded during the war.

                            Cordial greetings

                              Silver C

                              Hello,

It is my pleasure to discuss Glider pieces => do you know the number from teh Silver C that you did see ?

All original awarded Silver C badges are numbered and with one can trace the former owner, a major thing is however that it was a difficult badge to earn between 1930 and 1942 but that it is nowadays a very commonly awarded piece.

The reason for this is that the technology has made a enourmous advance in the meantime and the hard thing is also to determin if a badge is early wartime or not !!!!!!!

I will have to go though my archive to find the exact regulations but will come back as soon as possible.

                              Cordial greetings,
