The badge in the photo looks to have a vertical pin which doesn't match the pictured badge.
I agree - the badge worn in the portrait has a horizontal pin, it can just be seen peeking out from the side of the badge, where one would expect to see the pin.
What is the significance of the 1914 date and why was the 1929 rally held in such high regard as opposed to say the 1927 rally?
1914= Start of WW1
1919= start of DAP/ NSDAP
The 1929 rally was important due to Hitler getting industrialists, bankers etc. to back him and the party. It was also the largest rally to date with many more folks joining the party as well. The rally also had many street fights along with producing two martyrs who were killed by the Reds or Social Demacrats.
