F.W. Assmann & Sohne Sales Catalog
macca - I would really appreciate it if you'd post some pics of your badges. Painted M1/103 badges and enamel M1/8 badges are fairly unusual. However, I have never seen any example of an enamel M1/13 badge and I'd love some pics so I can add a new category to the site.
As to the Assmann reprint, I've got to say that the copy I bought was a gorgeous reproduction (I was actually shocked about the quality of it). But there was one aspect of it that I immediately found disturbing. Although there was an English forward, it simply didn't give any indication as to when the original, on which it was based, was issued. I'm left wondering whether the reprint I own is a compilation of the more interesting pages of Assmann catalogs or whether it's a cut down version of a specific year. For example, the belt buckle section states it is page "1 and 6". Does that mean that only pages 1 and 6 of the belt buckle section are shown (and another four pages are not shown) or does that mean that only pages 1 and 6 of the original catalog displayed belt buckles.
As to the date of origin, the forward of my reprint states that this is a, "facsimile reprint of the rare 1930's period catalog of this well-known manufacturer." I'm a little stumped that they don't know when the original copy, on which this was based, was printed. I can only assume it was in 1939 as objects bearing a 1939 date exist therein. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who can shed some light on this issue.
Despite my concerns about what the reprint is, I have no doubt that at least painted Assmann party membership badges have an oval "O" and a spread "L-S" in the obverse legend (the spread "L-S" runs the whole range of the spectrum). I say this because the 50 plus badges I've seen all share this trait.
I'm still working on the weights and blacklight issue.
