Not that it's going to solve your mystery but to me the letters look like Fraktur - either an upper case B or a more stylized R with a Z below that. I spent quite some time on Skype today with a friend in Germany trying to figure it out. Sorry I can't add more but maybe it will point you in the right direction.

Yes, this is a tough one. I`ve spent alot of time trying to find out what this is to no avail. There`s gotta be someone out there who has an answer. These are really nicely made pins. The pictures don`t do it justice

Gerdan is right and I had forgotten to mention the former national colours. You can be fairly sure it is pre Third Reich.
