    Political tie pin?

    Hi everyone,

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, but could someone tell me if they know what this is or have seen one before?
I think it could be a private purchase piece, but any help would be appreciated.
Also included is a picture of its box.
    Thanks, Paul

            Possibly private purchase?

In my opinion the eagle rings bells - the swastika somehow does not conform to the usual embossed effect but rather a raised style.

Yes, quite a find indeed, the like of which I've never seen before. But I wonder if your identifying it as a "tie pin" might be a bit off the mark? Tie clips, then as now, usually come with a means of restraining the necktie without penetrating the fabric; only stickpins and tie tacs actually pass through the fabric. I'm wondering whether this could be a woman's brooch or scarf pin, which would normally include a pinning device like this? It certainly would make an attractive attachment on a blouse, akin to the Luftwaffe Combined Pilot-Observer Badge worn as a brooch by Hanna Reitsch!

The box also resembles one made for a piece of jewelry; perhaps this piece was created especially for the wife of a high-ranking Party official, who may also have been a Partei Genosse? The maker's logo is that of a jeweler.

Are there any maker's marks anywhere on the reverse or on the clip device? It may even be made of gold, or perhaps solid silver gold-plated? Yes, quite a find!

Hi James, thanks for the info. I couldn't think what it was except a tie pin, but your opinion sounds alot better! Im at wrk at the moment so will look for markings later, but from memory there isn't anything except on one end of the pin. Not sure if that's a actual marking tho. Will have a look a post back. Thanks again. Paul

Thanks Paul; glad to help. This is an unusual and dramatic piece. While I can't make out much of the wording on the two seals on the box lid, I do see "Uhren & Goldwaren" -- "Timepieces & Gold Merchandise" -- so this was probably made by a higher-end jeweler in Rostock in Gau Mecklenburg-Lübeck, perhaps even one-of-a-kind. Wouldn't it be nice to find that it was ordered by Gauleiter Friedrich Hildebrandt as a present for his wife or his girlfriend?

I did notice something that looked like a marking on the pin point retainer on the reverse; perhaps that is a gold-content or silver-content stamp or a set of jeweler's symbols...? I look forward to seeing anything else you can share about this unique piece.
