1923 Gau Badge Yea or Nay?

I have a chance to buy this from a friend and would like to know what you all think. From reviewing other post, I would say it is real. The back of the wreath looks kind of like some of the Alpaca ones but the rivits don't. What do you think? What kind of price should I offer?

I agree it looks genuine. But due to condition I'd only offer a couple hundred.

            Thanks der-hase-fee!
Only $200? I don't think he will like that as he has shown me places where they are selling for $1500+

But isn't this one missing all of the enamel / paint on the swastika ? If so, I'd even prefer to wait for another opportunity to come along !

I agree, unless you can get it cheap. Condition is important.

                      1923 Gau Badge

                      Terry,

I actually like this badge a lot more than my fellow collectors and would pay up to $1000 for it. DN values painted versions at $1750 and I think that the un-painted one's with a nice patina have a lot more interest.

That said, I have both the 1923 and 1925 in enamel which are the nicest of all.

I am not aware of an intentionally bare badge ?

Oh yes! I have seen several of these un-painted versions over the years and always liked them.

                              Dear Terry,

It appears from your pix that the swas is either unpainted or has had the black enamel worn away by age or other elements. Is the photo accurately depicting the condition of the swas or would more pix help us? If the swas is unpainted or the enamel is worn off, then you would probably not be happy with this piece in your collection over time. Both the 1923 and the 1925 examples are rare, to be sure, but they do still surface if one is patient. And I have never found that the price I paid for an artifact was much if any consolation over time, if condition was poor.
