I have only seen a couple of originals of these scarce awards and neither had any markings on the back. The pin was also a narow coke bottle type/tapered pin.
I do have a picture but it is copyright to another member so cant post it.Comment

Personally I would be extremely wary of any award piece with an M9/...maker mark. This is because M9/ is the RZM pre-fix to the unique manufacturers identifier for an approved maker of day badges or "tinnies".I do have a first class Social Welfare Cross marked with manufacturers name / town on the reverse - it is very well made and I would be inclined to say it is museum display copy because of the quality. It could be a high class fake of course but a genuine award piece it most certainly is not.Comment

The cross is larger than the normal ribbon type. It is vaulted with a plain reverse with a thin pin. Unfortunatly I can not post a scan. I can do this on Third Reich Collectors Community if that helps along with the other Fire cross'sComment

Fire Brigade Quandry
Well, here we have it. Quite a few members with a "questionable" fire brigade cross and no one with an authentic piece. I implore Mr. Lumdsen, our famous author and forum member to shed a little light on this subject. Surely DETECTING THE FAKES would impart a little info on this piece. The only way we can rid our collections of fakes is to identify them concretely and remove them.

I have given a brief description of the original fire cross 1st Class. I have one in my collection, but am unable to post a picture on the forum. As stated I can on the one already mentioned. The pieces with makers names on the reverse are copys. There are a number of diferent forms and pin constructions. There is also a very convincing varriation on the 1st and 2nd class on ribbon that employs a new form cross withe the State motive substituted by the circle with swastica. The arms of the cross in this are larger at the ends than at the centre. I hope this clears up the missunderstanding for members who have fake cross'sComment
