Thank You John!! That answered my question. The style engraving that does allow the 4 to touch was my question. Thank you for posting the pictures and explainations.

              hdmarley,

The pin device is a period repair completed by a private jeweler. Note the darkened area below the pin where the original pin plate was attached.

No, this particular style of replacement pin is not common but replaced or improvised styles of pins are common on both the 24 and the 30mm badges due to the pins being fragile and braking from the constant and on and off from the uniforms.

This often pin braking resulted in what we collectors term the 'military' style pin where in reality, the new heavy style pin was a new ''improved' style by Deschler.<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_3592108", true); </SCRIPT>

              Regards,

              John

Looks like Geocities webhosting is kaput. Probably just as well, they were a pain to update.

I'll try to find other space and get the GPB website up and running again.

Thanks for the heads up, and John - thanks for defending my honor. Nice to have friends.

Please get that site back up!! That was a wonderful site to go to and read up before a "big purchase" and answer any questions as well!!

                  Cheers

                          Stephen,

                          Your honor needs no defending.

Your web site with the new server is active and running fine.

Per the seller - Brent - the small version is still available. But yes, the set got split ! Blowing my mind. I can acquire a case file on Hiebel, the original owner of the set, if anyone should be interested.
