the piece AND the box look to be in super condition..The owner must have held it in very high regard for it to survive in this condition.. A good catch, congrats , G.

Nice badge Robert - I own the dated Day Badge from Gau Thuringen. Itself hard to find, but that is a super find.

When was the Gau badge awarded? Was it in conjuction with the Gautreffen which the tinnie celebrates, hence the nearly identical design or did one come before the other and serve as inspiration for whichever came after?

Nice find JonFish, I also own the tinnie. Just dug it out after 30 years, and they all seem age beautifully. and the detail!....The cased example looks exquisite from here, but of course nothing like to view in person. the bronze also beautiful to see. arguably , for design, and detail, #1 on the all time list.

The beautiful rare cased badge that started this thread now resides in my collection.

Think the tinnie came out before the Ehrenzeichen.

Thanks Erich. It is a georgeous badge. Does Craigs Gau Badge book go into much detail on the history of these badges or are there some other references out there which would provide more detailed information? I have lots of questions which may be common knowledge to many here and would like to do more research on these, for example what was the basis of the design chosen for each Gau's honor badge?

Thanks Richard. Craig's book does a good job on the history of the badge and I'm also looking forward to member Matthews forth coming book on the subject.

                              Hi Richard,

In response to your question, the event badge was issued by Gau Thüringia for the rally at Erfurt on June 4, 1933, which celebrated the tenth anniversary of the NSDAP in that district. On June 17, 1933, Gauleiter Fritz Sauckel issued the official Party District Commemorative Badge -- so undoubtedly both badge concepts were being developed at the same time.

                              And Erich,

Yet again I envy you in securing this beautiful cased example for your collection!

                              Cheers, friends,

                              Br. James
