Yes, it is. This is a conmemorative badge awarded for Gau Munich authorities to people who participated in the 1923 nazi putsch. It was created in 1933, but one year later, in 1934 the Blood Orded was launched at national level to be awarded to the same people, been the Gau Muchich badge almost forgotten, without having a national level recognition.
Anycase a very desiderable and scarce item.
                Regards
                Gregorio

I agree it looks to be a textbook example. I've never found any documentation that there was any connection to the Blood Order, though. It appears, from the few period photos showing its wear, that it was presented in the same manner as the other Gau badges--at the discretion of the Gauleiter for either early NSDAP membership or special service to the Gau or Party. The badge was worn well after the awarding of the Blood Order. I'd be interested in additional research, if anyone has anything from the period about this award!

Are these awards found without a maker mark?

There are 2 different styles of this badge. Easy recognisable on the numbers 1933. The style you show comes with Deschler marking, the other and more rare style comes without marking. I will scan my piece and show it in the near future.

                            yes

to be clear, there is the rounded '33' that is often noted as being without a maker mark and it's generally true but in fact, there is 2 dashes that can be argued to be a 'maker mark' just as a 'clover leaf' can be used by another maker (not that a clover is used for gau munichs btw).

now, the 'flat topped 33' comes with the maker's name and i've seen a number of sub-variants of this maker (with a 9, without, umlauts, without umlauts, &, U). Check out this older posting of mine for details:
                            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...unich+variants

that being said, I've come across a 'flat topped 33' WITHOUT a maker mark and so has fellow collector Jaimie. In fact, I have one that I'll be selling shortly if anyone is interested.

I hope that explains it better.

here's an article (long download as it's one JPG file...but worth it) on Gau Munichs by fellow member and colleague Jaimie: GAU MUNICH ARTICLE

Tony, I didn******180;t know this thead on this badge. Very nice and useful. Thank you.
Erich, the conection between the Blood Order and Gau Munich Badge is obvious for me: same commemoration, same moto, and mainly same recipients, though there are not references to this badge specifically in the documentation of Blood Order. Angolia, Littlejohn and a lot of researchers think like me, if you read their boods.
On the other hand, have you got any period pics to be posted here showing this badge in use with the Blood Order, both?
                              Thank you.
